Bibliography of the History of Art (BHA)
The Bibliography of the history of art (BHA) is the most comprehensive bibliography of scholarly writing about the history of Western art. The database surveys visual art and material culture from late antiquity to the present. Included are both the fine arts (architecture, sculpture, painting, drawing and prints) and decorative and applied arts (popular art, folk art). BHA indexes and abstracts 1,400 journals, as well as books, conference proceedings, essays, exhibition catalogues, selected art dealers' catalogues, doctoral dissertations and microform publications. BHA is produced jointly by the Getty Research Institute and the Institut de l'Information Scientifique et Technique (INIST) in France. Collaboration with several European and American institutions ensure that a broad range of material is included. The bibliography includes:
- BHA (references from 1990 onwards)
- RILA (Répertoire Internationale de la Littérature de l'Art) (references 1975-1989) and
- RAA (Répertoire d'Art et d'Archéologie; references 1973-1989).
The print edition has been discontinued since 1999. BHA is available on Internet by subscription. Most academic and larger museum libraries give access to their clients.
Art Abstracts
Art Abstracts is a bibliographic database that cites articles from more than 370 periodicals published throughout the world. Coverage includes periodicals, yearbooks and museum bulletins published in English and other languages. In addition to articles, reproductions of works of art that appear in cited periodicals are indexed. For example, if a painting appears in an advertisement, Art Abstracts provides the artist’s name, the title of the work and a full bibliographic citation. References from 1984 onwards. The print edition has been discontinued since 1996. Art Abstracts is available via Internet by subscription. Most academic and larger museum libraries give access to their clients. Published by the H.W. Wilson Company and sometimes called Wilson Art Abstracts.
Art Index
Art Index presents the same indexing offered in Art Full Text, but without the abstracts or the links to full text articles. Art Index is updated daily on WilsonWeb and monthly on WilsonDisc, and is also available in print.
Art Full Text
Art Full Text contains full text from nearly 108 journals going back to 1997. This resource contains complete coverage from peer-selected journals covering more than 378 periodicals published throughout the world. Periodicals covered include English-language periodicals, yearbooks, and museum bulletins. Additional periodicals are published in French, Italian, German, Japanese, Spanish, Dutch and Swedish. Art Full Text covers abstracts from 1994 and full text from 1997. Available via the Internet by subscription. Some academic and larger museum libraries give access to their clients. Published by the H.W. Wilson Company and sometimes called Wilson Art Full Text.
