In 2006 Musea Brugge will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the death of the Bruges-British artist Frank Brangwyn (1867 – 1956). No fewer than three of the most influential names in the design world around 1900 – Arthur Heygate Mackmurdo, William Morris and Siegfried Bing – acted as mentors to Frank Brangwyn. As an experimental artist, he committed himself in the course of his long career to a wide range of projects, both great and small, ranging from (wall) painting, water colours, etchings, woodcuts and lithographs, right through to designs for buildings, interiors, stained-glass windows, furniture, carpets, ceramics and jewellery. This exhibition will illustrate the great diversity of his artistic output, as well as his relations with the Arts and Crafts movement, Art Nouveau and Modernism.
