Ter Brugghen’s Crucifixion

Exhibition: 22 April - 17 June 2002

Curator

Sergio Benedetti

Hendrick ter Brugghen (1588-1629) was one of the leading Dutch caravaggist painters, and this masterpiece, The Crucifixion with the Virgin and St John, stands as one of the greatest examples of Northern caravaggism and probably the artist’s fines works. It was displayed alongside a small selection of works on the same theme from the Gallery’s permanent collection. The painting was lent by the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.
