Verzamelaars in Dordrecht

Collectors in Dordrecht Exhibition: 27 November 2010 - 23 October 2011

Information from the museum, 19 November 2010

The exhibition that re-opens the Dordrechts Museum after a two-year renovation sheds light on collecting in Dordrecht. The city has a long tradition of important collectors. Collectors, such as Leendert Dupper, Willem Hendrik van Bilderbeek and Hidde Nijland were of great importance in the founding of the museum. They were responsible for the strong collection of 19th-century paintings with works by artists such as Breitner, Weissenbruch and Toorop.

The brand new exhibition wing will be used to show the taste and involvement of these important collectors from the early tears of the museum. Moreover a large selection of 17th- to 19th-century Dutch paintings from contemporary Dordrecht collectors are shown, often never exhibited before.
