Teylers Museum was founded in 1784 as a modern research institute for art and science. It is the only museum in the world with an authentic eighteenth-century building and interior, where the collections have been preserved in their historical context. Besides its scientific collections, Teylers Museum also has an extensive art collection, including paintings, drawings, prints, coins, and medals.
The internationally-renowned drawing collection includes over 3,000 drawings by Dutch and Flemish artists from the sixteenth to the nineteenth century, including works by Avercamp, Berchem, Cuyp, Rembrandt, Ruisdael, and Van Ostade. Particularly outstanding is the group of 125 drawings by Hendrick Goltzius from the estate of Christina of Sweden. Nowhere else in the world can so many of his drawings be found in one place. The Prints and Drawings Gallery of Teylers Museum is dedicated to exhibitions – changing at regular intervals – featuring works on paper from the collection.
