Bob van den Boogert passed away

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing away of Bob van den Boogert. Bob died in the early hours of May 1st at the age of 56.

Bob van den Boogert was a renowned scholar on Rembrandt and served as the chief curator of Museum Het Rembrandthuis from 1998 – 2013. He curated more than 50 exhibitions, many of which were collaborations with leading museums in Europe and the United States, including the Gemäldegalerie in Berlin and the National Gallery of Art in Washington. He also was the author of numerous exhibition catalogues and other publications. As a board member of the Hercules Segers Foundation, Bob worked on various exhibitions and publications on contemporary (figurative) graphic art. He was lastly preparing an exhibition on Gérard de Lairesse for 2016.

Bob studied Art History and Archeology at the University of Amsterdam, where he also defended his PhD dissertation: Habsburgs hofmecenaat en de introductie van de Italiaanse Hoogrenaissance in de Lage Landen (Habsburg Court Patronage and the Introduction of the Italian High Renaissance in the Low Countries) (1998).

We will miss his sparkling personality, his friendship and his passion for the arts. Our deepest condolences go out to his partner, Elke Stevens, and to his family and friends.

The cremation ceremony will take place on Thursday, May 7th at 4 PM in Crematorium Westgaarde, Ookmeerweg 275, 1067 SP Amsterdam.
