Muiderslot acquires A View of the Castle of Muiden by Gerrit Berckheyde

At TEFAF Maastricht, the international Art & Antique Fair, the Muiderslot acquired the painting A View of the Moated Castle of Muiden by the Dutch 17th century painter Gerrit Berckheyde (1638 – 1698): . Berckheyde was famous for his beautiful cityscapes of Amsterdam and Haarlem. His work Golden Bend is on view at the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam.

Seventeen-century representations of the Muiderslot Castle are rare. Worldwide, only six are known. A painting by Jan Abrahamszn. Beerstraten is in the collection of the National Gallery in London. Two others already belong to the castle, these will now be joined by a third.

The painting will be on view in the knight’s hall of the Muiderslot from the beginning of April.
