Museum Catharijneconvent wants to be a place where everyone feels at home and can reflect on beautiful objects and important stories. Every year, both inside and outside the museum walls, they welcome hundreds of thousands of exhibition visitors, (school) children and day trippers and they tell polyphonic stories that amaze and touch. By getting people moving, the museum wants to contribute to an understanding society.
They attach great importance to talent development. That is why Museum Catharijneconvent is looking for a junior curator as of January 2025 who brings new or different perspectives to its program and collection.
As a junior curator, you have a varied and versatile job in which you not only develop yourself, but you also actively contribute to the development of the museum. You will be part of the team in a special period: from the end of 2025, the museum will be temporarily closed for a large-scale renovation. The museum will reopen at the end of 2027. This period will be used, among other things, to develop research themes for the programming and the public program for the coming years. You will contribute ideas for these themes and for collaborations with scientific, social and/or cultural partners.
One of the projects you will actively contribute to is the new permanent collection presentation of the renovated museum. You will also perform regular activities in the curators’ department, such as supporting the acquisitions committee.
As a junior curator, you will be involved in:
- Collection policy and research: you will conduct research into objects from the collection and come up with proposals on how we can connect our collection even more to current events and social themes. For example, consider topics such as migration, diversity within Christianity, identity and politics.
- Networking: you have ideas about (new) partners for the museum, you like to work together in the form of or you are curious about sounding boards and co-creation.
- Presentation of the collection and exhibitions: substantive support in developing temporary exhibitions for a broad audience and substantive support in developing the new permanent collection presentation.
Who is the museum looking for?
Are you interested in religion? Can you connect heritage and social discourse and do you dare to add other perspectives? Are you a driving force and can you translate your creative ideas into words and deeds? And do you also get energy from research into (museum) objects? Then you are highly encouraged to apply.
