Gods and mortals: works by the court artists of Emperor Rudolf II from private collections

Exhibition: 16 February - 31 July 2012

Information from the organizers

Thanks to the interest of collectors, works are now returning to the Czech Republic which, although they were made for the imperial collections in Prague Castle, were later scattered by fate far from their place of origin.

This project from the cycle Long-term Loans presents four works of art from private collections in the Picture Gallery of Prague Castle. Leading artists of the Rudolfinian court, Matthias Gundelach, Hans von Aachen and Bartholomeus Spranger, portrayed scenes from mythology and from common humanity which at allegorical level represent private joys as well as life principles.
