Pleasure and Piety: The Art of Joachim Wtewael (1566–1638)

28 June - 4 October 2015

From the museum website, 25 November 2014

The first monographic exhibition on Dutch painter Wtewael will showcase his international mannerist style and remarkable technical ability through some 45 complex biblical and mythological narratives, as well as portraits and genre scenes. Wtewael, a brilliant colorist as well as a master storyteller, rendered many of his works on small copper plates and wood panels. The exhibition will also feature several of Wtewael’s outstanding portraits and larger narrative paintings that complement the often densely populated small images.
