From Rembrandt’s Workshop: Drawings from the Rembrandt School

Exhibition: 24 August - 18 November 2018

A Rembrandt or not a Rembrandt? Drawings by the Dutch master were confused from the outset with those of his students and assistants, who worked in the same style. Research and scholarship carried out by the few experts in this field have recently led to revolutionary reassessments of Rembrandt’s drawings. This also applies to the important holdings in the Berlin Kupferstichkabinett, which is following its 2006 publication of a critical catalogue of the Dutch master’s own drawings with an inventory catalogue of the Rembrandt-like works of his school and circle. The publication of this catalogue is accompanied by an exhibition with approximately 110 of the best drawings. Some Rembrandt originals will also be displayed in order to illustrate the similarities and the occasionally subtle differences between the works of the master and those of his school.
