Petition to Stop the Closure of Museum Rotterdam

Museum Rotterdam is threatened with closure. Last month, the Rotterdam Council for Art and Culture advised the Rotterdam City Council to close the city museum and use the 2021-2024 funding period to explore alternatives for the future housing of the collection.

Museum Rotterdam houses around 110.000 objects related to city. The collection includes works by Rotterdam painters of the seventeenth and eighteenth century such as Hendrick Sorgh (1610-1670) and Nicolaes Muys (1740-1808). These artists are currently on view in the exhibition Ateliergeheimen van Rotterdam (Studio Secrets of Rotterdam), which focuses on the work and life of six Rotterdam artists, including Pieter de Hooch and three modern Dutch masters.

Everyone who wishes to support the museum can sign the petition to save Museum Rotterdam (deadline 13 September 2020).
