Creating a CODART Canon
Dutch and Flemish Art in the Spotlight
On 18 November 2019, we presented and discussed the CODART Canon during a public symposium at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. Dr. Christopher Atkins, the inaugural Van Otterloo-Weatherbie Director of the Center for Netherlandish Art at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, spoke about Dutch and Flemish Art in the United States. The lecture was followed by a live discussion, after which we opened up the voting to non-members.

The CODART Canon
Being a curator entails not only having substantial knowledge about and caring for the collection under your supervision, it also involves making choices. What do you show and which narrative do you tell? With the CODART Canon the members of CODART will present a selection from the extensive and diverse range of early modern Dutch and Flemish art that is disseminated throughout the world. In making the CODART Canon we aim to highlight what the curator does, to make the works of art more visible, and to stimulate discussion about the profession and about art.

Registration
The symposium, which is open to the public, is intended for CODART members and all those interested in Dutch and Flemish art. Participants will have a unique opportunity to learn more about the nature and importance of the work of curators and the significant role of collecting and collectors. Registration for the symposium costs €15,00 and students are entitled to a €7,50 discount.
