The Museum of Western and Eastern Art in Odesa, Ukraine, houses a small but significant collection of Dutch and Flemish art from the seventeenth to nineteenth centuries, including paintings, prints, and applied art, such as Delftware. The collection comprises approximately 250 works. The paintings and prints primarily come from nineteenth-century collections in Odesa that were nationalized following the Russian Revolution of 1917. The museum’s collection of Dutch and Flemish art is a true treasure, illustrating the dazzling era of the Golden Age.
The crown jewels of the collection are two remarkable paintings by the eminent portraitist Frans Hals, The Evangelist Luke and The Evangelist Matthew. The museum houses a number of notabe works across various genres: paintings by Cornelis de Heem, David Vinckboons, Abraham Bloemaert, Roelant Savery, Alexander Andriaenszen, Justus Sustermans, and other renowned artists. The print collection includes engravings and drawings by Rembrandt, Adriaen van Ostade, Jacob van Ruisdael, and others.
