Eye for the sensual: selections from the Resnick Collection

Exhibition: 2 October 2010 - 2 January 2011

From the museum website, 27 April 2010

The exhibition will present a selection of about eighty-five European paintings and sculptures from the renowned collection of Stewart and Lynda Resnick. While particularly famous for its important eighteenth-century French paintings—including works by François Boucher, Élisabeth-Louise Vigée-Lebrun, Jean-Honoré Fragonard, Nicolas Lancret, and Hubert Robert—the Resnick collection also offers a wide variety of other European works, including those of the Dutch seventeenth-century school, represented by paintings of Peter Paul Rubens and Jacob Jordaens; eighteenth-century Venetian art, by works of Francesco Guardi and Giambattista Crosato; and the French nineteenth-century school, by Romantic paintings by Henri Lehman, as well as a rare religious composition by Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres. The exhibition will also reflect the Resnicks’ passion for sculpture, as illustrated with works by Clodion, Jean-Antoine Houdon, and Nicolas-Sébastien Adam, among others. The exhibition is to be designed by the world famous stage designer, Pier-Luigi Pizzi, and will be one of the inaugural exhibitions in LACMA’s new Resnick Exhibition Pavilion.
