Goltzius

This is a painting by Hendrick Goltzius, first published as such by Teodor Ionescu, Museul Brukenthal, Galeria de artǎ plasticǎ (Bucharest, 1964), pp. 10, 17, no. 46 (as Hendrick Goltzius, “Endymion”), ill. (incorrectly as square). It appears as such in my Columbia University dissertation, 1990, pp. 201-02, A-25 (as “Adonis"), and will appear in my forthcoming catalogue raisonné on the paintings of the artist. It was most recently included in the exhibtion Munich, Haus der Kunst, Barocke Sammellust. Die Sammlung des Baron Samuel von Brukenthal, Sibiu; die Sammlung Schönborn-Buchheim, Wien. Jan Seewald ed. 2003, , vol. 1, pp. 112-13, color ill. (incorrectly as square), (entry by Sanda Marta).
