New RKD Study on Pseudo Jan Wellens de Cock

Surprisingly little is known with certainty about the early sixteenth-century master Pseudo Jan Wellens de Cock. The new RKD Study De problematische kunstenaar Pseudo Jan Wellens de Cock. Naamgeving, historiografie en ondertekening (translated: The Problematic Artist Pseudo Jan Wellens de Cock: Naming, Historiography and Underdrawing) provides an overview of the paintings attributed to this master.

Over the past decades, extensive research has been carried out using infrared reflectography (IRR) to examine the underdrawings in the paintings attributed to him. The immediate impetus for this publication is the recent addition of all IRR images to the RKDtechnical database. In this RKD Study, this material is placed within a broader art-historical context, ensuring that valuable research is preserved in a sustainable way and remains accessible for future generations.
