A new feature has been published on the CODART website.

In 2025, the National Gallery of Canada received a transformative bequest of around 50 drawings by Dutch and Flemish artists from the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Donated by Frank and Marianne Seger, the sheets exemplify the characteristic subjects and techniques of the time, including masterpieces by Hendrick Goltzius, Karel van Mander, Jacques de Gheyn and Maarten van Heemskerck.

“In 2003–2004, the National Gallery of Canada (NGC) mounted the exhibition Dutch and Flemish Drawings from the National Gallery of Canada. Although presented under the banner of the Gallery’s holdings, the exhibition notably included a substantial planned bequest—comprising roughly 70 percent of the works—which the catalogue by Joaneath Spicer, Odilia Bonebakker and David Franklin, identified in its foreword as “the most significant moment to date in the collecting history of European drawings at the Gallery.” Continue reading…
