On Friday 23 October, the NIKI returns to Museum Catharijneconvent in Utrecht for this year’s symposium: Italy and the Low Countries – Artistic Relations: New Research.
Program
The program is taking shape around three clusters spanning current research themes carried out at the NIKI. Speakers range across career stages, from NIKI grant holders and PhD candidates to established scholars. Each session will be followed by a discussion and questions.
Cluster I – Material Knowledge and the Artistic Workshop

Cluster II – Women as Makers, Patrons and Protagonists
Julia Kok, Romy Kerkhof (Rijksmuseum), and Christel Andrik (Utrecht University)
Cluster III – Afterlives: Memory and the Image
Sointu Cantell (European University Institute) and Dr. Lia Costiner (Utrecht University)
There will be the chance to catch up with fellow guests and speakers over lunch.
The day will close on a high note with the presentation of this year’s Haboldt-Mutters Prize.
Admission
Admittance to the NIKI Symposium is free of charge. However, as the symposium takes place at Museum Catharijneconvent, you will need to obtain an entrance ticket at the museum ticket desk upon arrival.
Please bring your Museum Card or ICOM Card allowing you free museum admission. If you are not entitled to free admission, please contact the NIKI in advance at niki@nikiflorence.org for alternative arrangements.
Lunch and donation
A vegetarian lunch will be offered by the NIKI to all attendees. In return, they kindly ask you to make a donation to the new Hoogewerff-Hendrix Fund for Italian Studies, which promotes the scholarly study of Italian culture in the Low Countries and supports scholarly research at the NIKI. They suggest a minimum donation of €5 for students and €10 for other attendees.
From the museum entrance and ticket desk, please proceed to the foyer, where you will be able to scan the fund’s QR code and make your donation via Tikkie.
Arrival at 10.00 AM
Please arrive promptly at 10.00 AM, when Museum Catharijneconvent opens, to allow sufficient time to obtain your entrance ticket and make your donation before the symposium begins at 10.30 AM.

Step 2: Proceed to the foyer, where representatives of the NIKI and the Friends of the NIKI will welcome you. Here you can make your donation to the Hoogewerff-Hendrix Fund and learn more about becoming a Friend of the NIKI.
