The Courtauld Gallery cares for one of the most important art collections in the UK and presents a critically acclaimed annual program of temporary exhibitions and displays. They are now looking for an outstanding new colleague to join the team.

In this exciting and wide-ranging role, you will work closely with the Senior Curator, Paintings, supporting the stewardship of their world-renowned collection and contributing to the development and delivery of their ambitious exhibition program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the display, interpretation, and documentation of the permanent collection of paintings.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of exhibitions and displays, including research, administration, and public engagement.
  • Liaise with internal teams and external partners to support loans, events, and scholarly access.
  • Manage interns and volunteers, and contribute to teaching and learning activities.
  • Maintain high standards of collections care, record-keeping, and public access.
  • Lead on curatorial production of displays in the Project Space and support digital content development

About You

You will bring:

  • A PhD in the history of art or equivalent research experience.
  • Excellent knowledge of European painting from 1250 onwards, with a demonstrable breadth of interest.
  • Curatorial experience, ideally with a collection, and experience working on exhibitions and displays.
  • Strong research, writing, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate effectively to diverse audiences.
  • A collaborative, proactive approach with excellent organizational and administrative skills.
  • A readiness to travel and a commitment to supporting inclusive and accessible public engagement.

Fluency in a foreign language and experience with collections management systems are desirable.
