Changes on CODART Board: Rudi Ekkart Leaves, Emilie Gordenker and Jan Hoekema Take Office

With the expiration of his term of office, Rudi Ekkart has left the board of CODART. He remains an advisor to CODART. The board has been reinforced with the membership of Emilie Gordenker, director of the Mauritshuis, and Jan Hoekema, mayor of Wassenaar and major figure in Dutch international cultural relations.

Rudi Ekkart’s term of office on the board of CODART ended as of 1 July 2008. He will remain an advisor to the board. CODART would like to thank Rudi Ekkart for all of his work as board member. We are very pleased that he will continue to remain close to CODART.

Emilie Gordenker (1965), director of the Mauritshuis, The Hague, joined the board of CODART as of October 2008. Gordenker has been a member of CODART since 2003 and a member of the Website Committee since 2005. Before working at the Mauritshuis, she was senior curator of Early Netherlandish, Dutch and Flemish art at the National Gallery of Scotland in Edinburgh (2003-07). Gordenker received her Ph.D. from the Institute of Fine Arts, New York University in 1998 with a dissertation on Anthony van Dyck, Careless romance: van Dyck and costume in 17th- century portraiture, which was published in 2001. After her studies, Gordenker worked as a freelance art historian at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Frick Collection and the Rijksbureau voor Kunsthistorische Documentatie (RKD) and elsewhere. She has also taught at Rutgers University and Vassar College.

As of 1 November 2008, Jan Hoekema (1952) has also joined the CODART board. Hoekema has been mayor of Wassenaar since July 2007. He was previously director of Research, Education and Culture as well as Ambassador for International Cultural Cooperation at the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2003-07). From 1994 to 2002 he was a member of the Dutch parliament for the D66 party. Hoekema serves as a board or committee member for various cultural institutions. These include DOD Amsterdam, the Hanze University, Groningen dance academy, the Nieuwe Kerk Amsterdam, Toneelschuur Haarlem and Concerto d’Amsterdam.

With these new appointments, CODART fulfills its board quorum and reaches full strength. We are looking forward to a fruitful cooperation in the coming years.
