New CODARTfeature: Rembrandt the Beacon. The Myth of a Painter in the Century of Fragonard

Until 15 March, the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Draguignan is presenting the exhibition Rembrandt the Beacon. The Myth of a Painter in the Century of Fragonard. The show explores how Rembrandt’s oeuvre was interpreted and reimagined in eighteenth century France. By examining these “translations,” the exhibition illustrates Rembrandt’s emerging reputation and his influence on the evolution of modern French art.

“‘Le Phare Rembrandt’ examines the afterlife of the Dutch painter in France in the eighteenth century, a time when his paintings were increasingly being collected and scrutinized—by artists as well as collectors.
