The Jheronimus Bosch Art Center invites you to participate in the second
international Jheronimus Bosch conference, this time centering on the theme ‘The Sources of Bosch’. Scholars from various countries will share all current knowledge on the Medieval artist with you during the three-day conference, which is to be held in ’s-Hertogenbosch, the Netherlands on 23, 24 and 25 May 2007.

Jheronimus Bosch was a genius who constituted the conclusion to the rich tradition of 15th-century Dutch art and the start of the modern era. The conference ‘The Sources of Bosch’ will deal with the inspiration behind Bosch’s fantastic works of art: visual sources as well as texts and sermons, political and social events. Did the great fire of 1463 have a lasting influence on the then very young Jheronimus? Do mystical or theological texts hold the key to his art? Did he himself experience infernal visions? Did music and theatre play a role? Did Bosch really see Italian paintings as a model to be followed or did they represent rules that were to be transgressed?

Thirty international scientists will answer all these questions and more during the three-day conference organized by the Jheronimus Bosch Art Center. The keynote speakers who will open the proceedings are Prof. Dr Larry Silver and Prof. Dr Joseph Koerner. Other experts who will provide their views on Bosch’s sources over the three days include: Dr Roger-Henri Marijnissen, Prof. Dr Eric de Bruyn, Prof. Dr Jos Koldeweij and Prof. Dr Reindert Falkenburg.

The 2007 Jheronimus Bosch conference offers participants the opportunity to be informed about contemporary international developments in the scientific research into Jheronimus Bosch. The conference’s location is an apt one as the Jheronimus Bosch Art Center is a knowledge and experience center founded in the city Bosch was born, educated and died in. All the lectures and discussions will be held in the center’s various rooms. The daytime program provides public and optional lectures, and group discussions. The maximum number of conference participants is two hundred. You can register for the conference via the Jheronimus Bosch Art Center’s website. The registration form can be found under the ‘conference’ button. Registration takes place on a first come, first served basis.

The cost of participation in the Jheronimus Bosch conference amounts to € 200. If you are unable to attend the entire conference, you can register for one or two days. The cost per day amounts to € 75. These prices include lunch, but do not include travel or accommodation expenses.

The Jheronimus Bosch Art Center offers students a 50% discount on the conference fee. A limited number of places will be reserved for them.

A meeting, including a dinner, will be organized on the evening of Thursday May 24. This evening costs € 75 per person. There are one hundred places available.

The Jheronimus Bosch Art Center wishes to contribute to the global awareness and conservation of Jheronimus Bosch’s heritage. The international study and experience center opens on March 31, 2007.
