The exhibition, organized by themes, examines a wide variety of images by artists of the Golden Age in Holland, among them fifteen etchings by Rembrandt van Rijn and prints and drawings by Esaias, Jan, and Willem van de Velde, Jacob de Gheyn, Adriaen van Ostade, and others. The themes include Labor and Trades, Peasant Life, Landscape, National Iconographies, and the Culture of Art. Holland of the Imagination leads up to an interdisciplinary symposium, ‘Visual Culture in Early Modern Europe: The Dutch Experience,’ to take place at Yale’s Whitney Humanities Center on 1-2 February 2002.
