This exhibition in the Amsterdam City Archives has been inspired by a generous gift of more then 700 drawings, aquarelles and pastels by Martin Monnickendam (1873-1943). This is the largest donation even received by the archive. The exhibition shows 100 of these works, focusing on the cityscapes of Amsterdam.

Van 6 februari tot en met 3 mei 2009 organiseert het Stadsarchief Amsterdam de tentoonstelling Het Amsterdam van Martin Monnickendam.
Aanleiding tot de tentoonstelling is een genereuze schenking door de Stichting vrienden van de schilder Martin Monnickendam van meer dan 700 werken: tekeningen, aquarellen en pastels. Het is de grootste schenking die het Stadsarchief ooit ontving en een belangrijke aanvulling op de collectie kunstwerken die Amsterdam documenteren. In de tentoonstelling worden, thematisch gegroepeerd, ruim 100 werken getoond, waarin het Amsterdamse stadsgezicht een prominente plaats inneemt.
