From the museum website

This small, focused exhibition brings together four paintings by Dutch master Jan de Bray and one by Peter Paul Rubens. De Bray was one of the leading portrait and history painters in Haarlem, a city at the center of the Dutch Golden Age. This exhibition is the first to explore the distinctions in De Bray’s work between formal portraiture and the portrait historié—a type of portraiture in which the sitter plays a role in a historical or allegorical guise.
