Presented by the Center for the History of Collecting, this two-day symposium focuses on America’s taste for seventeenth-century Flemish painting. The keynote address, by Arthur K. Wheelock Jr., Curator at the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C., is followed by presentations on pioneering private collectors as well as public collections in New York, Detroit, and Los Angeles. The event concludes with an interview of Thomas Leysen, an eminent collector of seventeenth-century Flemish paintings.
