Amsterdams zilver: hoogtepunten uit de collectie van de stad Amsterdam

Amsterdam silver: highlights from the silver collection of the City of Amsterdam Exhibition: 31 January - 17 August 2003

From the museum website

The Amsterdam Historical Museum’s collection of silver and gold objects made in, or connected with, the city of Amsterdam, is one of the most important in the Netherlands. The collection contains work from the Middle Ages through to the late twentieth century. This silver and gold collection, with about four hundred objects, is marvellously rich and varied. It can be divided into various categories. There are stately pieces of silverwork made for municipal bodies, such as the drinking horn created in 1566 for the Guild of St George, otherwise known as the militia of crossbow archers; and there are extravagant display pieces made to commemorate special occasions, such as the 25th anniversary of the Amsterdam zoo, Artis.

From 31 January to 17 August 2003 there will be a scintillating show in the Willet-Holthuysen Museum, presenting objects from this many-facetted collection.
