Philip the Handsome, king of Castile and the last duke of Burgundy, was married to Joanna the Mad. In this exhibition, 30 works of the highest quality tell the compelling story of Philip and his time, from the rituals of knighthood to points of etiquette and court life. The myths surrounding the dynasty and the end of Philip’s reign are part of the show. The exhibition was first held in Casa del Cordón in Burgos, where the monarch died, and is now at the Church of Our Lady in Bruges, where he was born. The exhibition was organized by the Fundación Carlos de Amberes in connection with the 500th anniversary of the death of Philip the Handsome.
