Since the Middle Ages, the flourishing Flemish economy gave rise to portraiture. A portrait presents the painter with the possibility to depict more than general appearances. As a face reflects the most intimate of feelings, as well as the personality of the portrayed and the deepest reflections of his soul.
This exhibition focuses on the best works of the Musée des Beaux- Arts de Dunkerque in Dunkirk, which closed in April 2015.
