Goldene Heilige zu Gast in Xanten

Exhibition: 7 March - 30 December 2018

The StiftsMuseum Xanten houses special treasures of late mediieval carving. This exhibition focuses on 14 figures from a 15th century altar piece, which was used for over 400 years on the high altar of the church Kloster Kanp church (in Kamp-Lintfort).

In the summer of 2017, the 14 figures were restored and exhibited at the LandesMuseum Bonn. On loan from the parish of St. Peter Rheinberg, they are now exhibited at the StiftsMuseum. The figures, which are almost completely gilded except for the faces, hands and hair, are presented in an altarpiece setting: they are placed in front of a shrine-like housing. The pedestal and back wall are photographic reproductions. Thhis design shows the magnificent architecture of the original shrine.
