Treasures from the Rijksmuseum
Discover the meaning and impact of fire throughout the centuries in “Hete Vuren” (Hot Fires). This traveling exhibition presents over thirty paintings from the Rijksmuseum, featuring works by renowned painters such as Jan Steen, Gerard Dou, and Jozef Israëls.
Fire used to be a far more pervasive presence in our lives than it is today. It could strike as an inexplicable force, yet it also became the engine of our civilization. We sought underground sources to create fire ourselves, whether for domestic use, for work, or even for destruction. Fire, neutral in itself, became a tool for humanity, evoking strong emotions within us.
Focusing on Limburg Stories
“Hete Vuren” was previously exhibited at the Markiezenhof, the Hannemahuis in Harlingen, Museum Zutphen, and Museum Gouda. Its final stop is here at the Limburgs Museum. In this exhibition, we tell a unique Limburg story through three characteristic historical themes: Limburg pottery reflects Domestic Fire, the many city sieges represent Destructive Fire, and the mining industry embodies Artisanal Fire.
