Museum information

An exhibition presenting the games played with the image by the painter with the audience. On the one hand these artist showed casual life with its daily routine, on the other hand they made an attempt to initiate a dialogue on ethical standards. Their works contain allegories, metaphors and tales that hand down hidden and ambiguous essences.

The exhibition is based on the collections of three national museums (Wrocław, Poznan, Szczecin), enriched with the collection from Łodz. As the title indicates, some of the works on display go beyond conventional iconographies to present a wealth of meanings. On the one hand, there are clear warnings against the traps of earthly existence and its inferiority, while on the other we see a palette of temptations, charms and spells.
