Information from the museum, 11 May 2009
On June 8th, 2009 the Bonnefantenmuseum hosts a study day on the occasion of the exhibition Jordaens: the making of a masterpiece, which the museum organised in cooperation with the Statens Museum for Kunst, Copenhagen. The aim of the study day is twofold:
1. To be able to discuss the recent technical and art historical findings on both versions of The Tribute Money among specialists, and
2. To study, discuss and compare other (early) Jordaens paintings and studies present in the exhibition. Some of the paintings in the exhibition were specifically lent with this purpose, including a recently resurfaced early sketch on the art market.
Although the study day will have an informal character, stimulating and provoking discussion, the meeting will be moderated by either Jørgen Wadum or Johanneke Verhave (representing the research and restoration team at the Statens Museum for Kunst) and Arnout Balis (Rubenianum; Koninklijk Museum voor Schone Kunsten, Antwerpen). The study day is open to those specializing in Jordaens particularly, or in other fields of Flemish baroque. Priority will be given to representatives of institutions contributing to the exhibition project. The maximum number of participants is 30.
The other exhibitions, as well as the permanent collection in the Old Master department will be open during the day.
