The exhibition Louvre Atlanta: the Louvre and the masterpiece (12 October 2008-6 September 2009) will feature The astronomer by Johannes Vermeer until 17 February 2009.

The Louvre and the Masterpiece will explore how the definitions of “masterpiece,” as well as taste and connoisseurship, have changed over time. The exhibition features 4,000 years of art, over 90 works from all eight of the Louvre’s collection areas, and includes paintings, sculpture, decorative arts and drawings.
Featured objects will rotate in and out throughout the length of the exhibition.
