Making the Difference: Vermeer and Dutch Art

Exhibition: 16 February - 12 May 2019

Information from the museum

Johannes Vermeer (1632-1675) was a master artist in the Dutch golden age of art. It is said that only 35 of his works remain today. Of these, six paintings will be shown- the most in any exhibition in Osaka. “The Procuress”,on exhibition in Japan for the first time, marked Vermeer’s transition from painting biblical scenes to those of daily life, and the man on the far left is said to be a self-portrait of Vermeer. Don’t miss this great opportunity to follow his works, from early biblical paintings to his characteristic tranquil works embraced with soft light.

The exhibition is being held at the Osaka City Museum of Fine Arts in Osaka (1-82 Chausuyama-cho, Tennoji Ward, Osaka).
