Museum Catharijneconvent will be fulfilling one of its long-cherished wishes with the presentation of Mary.
The exhibition will bring many fascinating Marys together from national and international collections and will set out to display exciting combinations. There will be radiant Marys from the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium, Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, the Van Gogh Museum and the Mauritshuis, to mention just a few.
Mary’s miraculous life story will run like a thread throughout the exhibition, which will occupy the entire top floor of the museum. Her life can be followed in art from her Conception to her Assumption into Heaven. Themes like devotion and pilgrimage will also be highlighted. Moving personal stories will illustrate her humanity. The exhibition will show Mary as a great global symbol of love, womanhood, family, fear, sorrow, consolation and protection.
