As part of the celebrations of the bicentenary of the National Gallery in London, we will display the Johannes Vermeer painting: A Young Woman Standing at a Virginal.
This incredible artwork comes to Scotland as part of National Treasures, a program celebrating the National Gallery’s bicentenary. To celebrate 200 years of the National Gallery, twelve of the UK’s most iconic and well-loved paintings from the gallery’s outstanding collection are being lent to twelve venues across the UK. This will mean that more than half the UK population will be within an hour’s journey of a National Gallery masterpiece. All twelve displays of loaned paintings will open on 10 May 2024, the 200th birthday of the National Gallery.
A Young Woman Standing at a Virginal will be displayed alongside Vermeer’s early Christ in the House of Martha and Mary (1654-56) from the collection of the National Galleries of Scotland.
