The “Obras de paso” (Passing Works) project of seeks to create new interpretations around the collections of the Cerralbo Museum, establishing links and collaborations with other institutions. This second cycle, titled “Más allá de Cerralbo” (Beyond Cerralbo), is based on a double dialogue – artistic and cultural – through the parallels and contrasts existing between objects from the Cerralbo collection and from other Madrid institutions.
The chosen works were created by artists present in the Cerralbo collection, although with completely different paintings, dialectically contrasting with those that adorned his palace and galleries. This cycle will also allow us to draw attention to certain works exhibited on the Main Floor that might occasionally go unnoticed, highlighting their importance.
The first of these is Still life of Fruit with a Squirrel by Frans Snyders, belonging to the National Prado Museum, a work by an artist present in the Marquis’s collection through a large canvas exhibited in the Gala Dining Room titled Porcupines and Vipers.
