Masterpieces of Dutch and Flemish painting are being lent to the museum this summer from the outstanding collection of His Grace the Duke of Westminster. Rembrandt (1606-69) was one of the supreme geniuses in the history of art. ‘A Man with a Hawk’ and ‘A Lady with a Fan’, painted in 1643 in Rembrandt’s studio under his direct supervision, display technical brilliance and a sense of physical presence. ‘Saying grace before a meal’ and ‘Interior of a tavern’ exemplify the scenes of Flemish peasant life for which David Teniers the Younger (1610-90) is best known.
