To bring the current exhibition “Paintings from Siena. Ars Narrandi in Europe’s Gothic Age”, exhibition to a fitting conclusion, BOZAREXPO is organising a colloquium on the influence of Byzantine iconic art on Flemish painting. In the Christian East, these sacred images were venerated; in the West, they were seen as works of art. How did these different outlooks come into being? How did icons find their way from Byzantium to the Low Countries, via Italian cities raised and handled by a number of eminent experts.
