The exhibition Rembrandt in Black and White shows etchings of the master from a private collection. It is the first time this collection is on display in its entirety. The exhibition will travel to five different locations, with a different focus for each location.
In the Westfries Museum in Hoorn (23 March-28 July 2013) the focus lies on pictures of daily life. A number of 100 etchings will be on view and of one of them, the portrait of the minister Jan Uytenbogaert, the original copper plate is included.
Rembrandt van Rijn is mostly known for his paintings, but in his days he was appreciated highly among his colleagues for his etchings as well. His total oeuvre of etchings is estimated to be around 290 pieces. A representative part is on show in this exhibition.
