Time: 13.00-14.00 BST
Location: Zoom (Online)
Speaker: Dr Lucy Davis (Curator of Flemish and British Paintings, Miniatures and Works on Paper, The Wallace Collection)
Description: In this lecture, Dr Lucy Davis, Curator of ‘Rubens: Reuniting the Great Landscapes’ will discuss our current exhibition, an exciting and unique reunion of Rubens’s famous pendant landscape masterpieces: A View of Het Steen in the Early Morning, on loan to us from the National Gallery, and The Rainbow Landscape (the Wallace Collection). She will explore the themes of the exhibition and of her recent book Rubens. The Two Great Landscapes. The paintings will be seen as the culmination of Rubens’s long engagement with landscape and nature and the many pictorial sources that inspired him. They will be explored in the context of Rubens’s later life, and the central role of his estate Het Steen in this remarkable period of artistic creation.
