Saenredam in Den Bosch

Saenredam in Den Bosch Exhibition: 25 May - 21 July 2013

In the last week of June 1632, Pieter Saenredam travelled from Haarlem to Den Bosch (’s‑Hertogenbosch or Bois-le-Duc). That very month he had turned 35 years and already had a lengthy career as a draughtsman and painter behind him. Yet, as far as we know, it was the first time he left his residence for a substantial time to work elsewhere. Thus it must also have been an exciting journey, especially since he had only quite recently decided to fully specialize as an architectural painter. The drawing of local monuments indeed became his main occupation in Den Bosch.
