Scientific symposium on the occasion of the exhibition Maarten van Heemskerck
Venue: Auditorium Teylers Museum
The exhibition about Maarten van Heemskerck at the Frans Hals Museum, Teylers Museum and Stedelijk Museum Alkmaar is based on years of in-depth research into his life, his network, his work and his significance. During the symposium, organized jointly by the Haarlem and Alkmaar museums, Jessica Roeders and Mireille te Marvelde, restorers at the Frans Hals Museum, will speak about the spectacular and complex treatment of Heemskerck’s iconic painting The Madonna of St. Luke from 1532. Afterwards, Dr. Leen Bervoets (Ghent University), Dr. Oliver Kik (KIK-IRPA, Brussels) and Dr. Daantje Meuwissen (Utrecht University) will present their ongoing research on early Dutch art. So this afternoon you will look at the sixteenth century through different windows.
