This October, in association with Liverpool John Moores University and Shakespeare North, Knowsley Hall will be hosting an International Symposium. This unique event will see leading scholars of Elizabethan and Jacobean theater culture, marking the 400th anniversary of the death of William Shakespeare. This symposium at Knowsley Hall promises to reveal new research and interpretation about the deep involvement of the Earls of Derby and other members of the Stanley family in the world of Shakespearean theater, especially in the North West.
Context and discussion will be provided with Anglo-Dutch and Anglo-Flemish portraits of the Earls of Derby and landscapes depicting Knowsley Park, drawn from the Derby Collection and dating from ca. 1530 to ca. 1730.
