Exhibition: 4 December 2025 - 30 September 2026

The exhibition ‘The Art of Painting. Confluences in the time of the Habsburgs in the Alejandro Sanz Peinado collection’ brings together more than 80 works, including paintings and tapestries from the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, which reflect the art of Habsburg Europe and the Spanish Golden Age (Siglo de Oro).

This first installment, which can be visited until 30 September 2026, is part of an exhibition project that will continue with a second part. The exhibition is curated by Ángel Rodríguez Rebollo.

The Alejandro Sanz Peinado collection was conceived over three decades, consolidating itself as one of the most significant Spanish private collections of sixteenth and seventeenth-century painting. Its beginnings focused on Dutch painting, but the proximity between cities like Delft or The Hague and Antwerp sparked his interest in Flemish painting, and, given the link between these territories and the Habsburg monarchy, also in Spanish painting of the Golden Age.

Based on these pillars, the exhibition traces a chronological journey that spans from the dawn of the sixteenth century until 1700, the year that marks the end of the Habsburg dynasty.
