In 1993 the museums have started with this fundamental research project. It comprised the historic, iconographic, stylistic en technical study of 83 paintings from the museum, made in the Southern Netherlands During the 15th and early 16th century. The results of this work were published in the five parts of the catalogue The Flemish Primitives, which were subsequently published in 1996, 1999, 2001, 2006 and March 2009.
