The Younger Brueghels and Their Era represents works of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries from one of the largest private collections in Russia. The Brueghels’ works at the exhibition are complemented by a number of works by their contemporaries. In total, the exhibition presents 70 works of well-known Flemish and Dutch authors, most of which are shown to the Russian public for the first time.
The exhibition is based on works by representatives of the Brueghel dynasty: Pieter Brueghel the Younger, Jan Brueghel the Elder, as well as his grandson, Jan Brueghel the Younger. For 20 years, Konstantin Mauergauz acquired these works at Sotheby’s, Christie’s and other auctions, as well as in private galleries. His collection continues to be actively expanded to this day. In 2015, an important part of it (29 works) was shown at the exhibition at the State Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts. After five years, the New Jerusalem Museum now presents 70 works to the public.
The exhibition is accompanied by a scholarly catalogue, prepared by Vadim Sadkov.
