On the occasion of the Fashion Year Antwerp 2001, the Stedelijk Prentenkabinet (Municipal Print Gallery) and the Plantin-Moretus museum are organising the exhibition Uit de mode! Oude kostuumprenten verdragen nieuw talent.
In the fashion year 2001, ‘Uit de mode!’ invites you to have a look at the fashion awareness in a different era. Prints and costume books from the 16th to the 18th century prove that fashion from our cultural past remains interesting. The costume books of Abraham De Bruyn provide a detailed insight in 16th century fashion. The costume prints from the 18th century are quite surprising by their minute dress in genuine fabrics.
The school Sint-Maria Institute and its division Fashion design dares confrontation with the richness in form and colour of costume and fashion prints from a wide collection of the Stedelijk Prentenkabinet. The students interpret these designs in historical and actual creations. You can discover the costumes in unpredicted places in various rooms of the Museum Plantin-Moretus and the Prentenkabinet.
